Agility: Jurres agility licence test
Posted on: November 22th, 2011 at 11:01 PM.
In Belgium a dog and handler are only allowed to compete in agility after gaining an agility licence by passing an agility test. Jurre (C litter) passed his test on November 12, at the age of only 16 months, by running a nice and faultless round.
Below the video clip of this round. The video window can be enlarged by clicking the icon

Agility: end of the Dutch competition season (FCI)
Posted on: October 21th, 2011 at 8:08 PM.
The dutch agility competition season of the FCI has ended for this year. Mel and Britt (B-litter) have been promoted. Next year they will compete in FCI grade 3 (subclass B2). Their sister Ratu has been promoted to this class during the competition season by earning three first places, so next year she also competes in FCI grade 3 (subclass B2). Dua (litter 2002) and Sem (A litter) were running in FCI grade 3 (subclass C) this year, and will also compete there next year. Baik (litter 2002) will compete next year in grade 3 subclass B2 as he did this year.
On the pictures: Sem, who earned a very nice sixth place overall in the grade 3 C-large competition season.
Many thanks to HSV Speed-Eemland and Marissa Figee for these pictures.
Agility: the Cynophilia Masters
Posted on: October 17th, 2011 at 10:48 PM.
The end of the Dutch agility season is marked by a competition called "the Cynophilia Masters". A qualification is needed to enter this competition. Qualifications are based on the results of the competitions of the ending season. Only combinations competing in FCI grade 2 or grade 3 can qualify. We are very proud of the four Beautiful Day's who qualified for this competition: Sem (A-litter) and Mel, Ratu and Britt (B-litter). Ratu's jumping was without a fault, but she and her handler Nico managed to have the fastest time.
Below pictures of Mel and Ratu, thanks to Jurjen and Marina (www.dogonshirt.nl).

He is active in agility and dogdance, but not competitive. It was nice seeing him and his owners again. Below a picture of Bunny, and a picture of Bunny together with his mother Skippy (left).

Obedience: Jurre earned the Belgian obedience certificate
Posted on: October 4th, 2011 at 5:25 PM.
Jurre (C-litter) had already passed the Belgian test of sociability in March with flying colours, but now he has also earned the Belgian obedience certificate. He earned full points for every excersize, but for the last one. The last excersize was the retrieve. Jurre knows this excersize very well, but he was in a playful mood, which costed him some points. We, and also his owners, are very proud of him.
Congrats to Christel!
By the way, also Jedd and Cate, two grandchildren of Skippy bred by the Belgian kennel Bonnie Blue, passed their test of sociability last week. They are a nephew and niece of Jurre.

Flyball: Fellow's first competition
Posted on: September 29th, 2011 at 3:59 PM.
Last sunday Fellow (C-litter) participated in a flyball competition for the very first time! He was present at the competition just for fun, and was not scheduled to run, because he only had attended six flyball lessons before. But because one of the scheduled dogs could not run and the team felt they had nothing to loose Fellow was given the chance to run. And he did very well: he was very focused and raced without faults to the flyball box and back. At the end of the day he received an incentive price, because he was by far the youngest participant.
Congrats to Barbara!

Skippy dock diving!
Posted on: August 28th, 2011 at 8:07 PM.
Skippy is very fanatic when playing with her ball. Because of this she jumps into the water in a very enthousiastic manner. While she is getting a little older (11.5 years) we don't know how much longer she can play like this without getting sore joints. So this is why we made a short movie of her jumping into the water. You can see the result below. To watch full screen, click the icon

In memoriam Ferrah
Posted on: June 21th, 2011 at 2:51 PM.
Yesterday we had to say goodbye to Ferrah: she was really at her end. In March she was examined by ultrasound after having strange seizures, and it turned out she was suffering from pancreatic cancer, which had spread to her liver and other parts of her body. She had some nice and painfree months after this devastating news, because of the medication she got. These lasts days however, the medication stopped working, probably because her liver did not function well. She was feeling very ill and the last thing we could do for her was to let her go...
Ferrah was a very special dog. She was very sensitive and seemed to understand our feelings and thoughts. Anne had a very strong bond with her. She had a very strong character and a lot of working drive, even until her last days.
In life I loved you dearly,
In death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place
no one could ever fill.

Ferrah...
Posted on: March 21th, 2011 at 8:22 PM.
We received the saddest news today. Our Ferrah has not been herself lately. She had been put on a diet but only gained more weight. Blood tests revealed nothing extraordinary. But things got worse, she started to have strange seizures. During those she made strange movements and threatened to pass out. When given food she remarkably recovered. A blood test was run during a seizure and this reveiled she had a very low blood sugar level. The vet suspected her to have pancreatic cancer.
Today Ferrah was examined by ultrasound. This confirmed the suspicion of our vet. We also learned the cancer has spread to her liver. There were also some strange spots on her spleen and one of her kidneys showed to be abnormal. We are truly devastated by this news.
Fortunately she does not seem to have any pain. And considering all the medical abnormalities her condition is amazingly good. We will try to keep her blood sugar lever higher with medication and want to make the most of the time we have left with her.

Agility competition BCCN
Posted on: January 16th, 2011 at 10:46 PM.
Today Smooch participated in an agility competition again, after a long recovery from injury. The competition was organized by the Border Collie Club of the Netherlands and was held in Bergen op Zoom. Smooch surely needs some more training, especially with the weaves. But no surprise after such a long recovery and we had a very fun day
.
Ratu and Britt (B-litter) were also participating. It was Britt's first competition and she had two clear rounds (jumping 3rd place, agility 5th place). Now she needs only 1 promotion point for FCI grade 2. Congrats Gerard and Britt!
